The Oxford Lacrosse Club is adding a third-fourth grade lacrosse team this spring and to kick the process off, the organization is staging an ‘Introduction Lacrosse Clinic’ at the Den Training Facility in Oxford at 10:30 am until noon Wednesday, December 28, 2016. The cost of the event is $5 to cover the cost of facility rental.
The Introduction Lacrosse Clinic is being staged by Oxford High School players and the coaching staff to teach new players the basics of the sport and to generate interest in building a new team. Players should have their own sticks, but some sticks will be available for use during the clinic.
A new 3-4 grade playing format is being introduced this spring to make the sport for more for smaller, beginning players. The 3-4 grade teams will be playing 7v7 on a 50-yard field, which is half the size of a regulation field. The idea behind the new format is to make the players work on sport skill instead of introducing cross-country specifics.
“We only need about 12-14 players to field a team and if we have more interest, we’ll add more teams. The 7v7 format includes a goalie, and two defensemen, two midfielders and two attacks. This is a huge gain for our young players, so we look forward to seeing a large group on Wednesday, December 28, 2016,” said Greg Normand, Oxford Varsity head coach.
There is no registration for the event, so interested players should show up about 10:15 am December 28. The Den Training Center is located at 925 North Lapeer Road, right across M-24 from Meijers. The phone number at the Den is 248-628-3104.
