OA Hockey vs. Grand Blanc Recap

OA Hockey vs. Grand Blanc Recap

A day after a great victory over Utica United, the Oxford Avondale United Hockey Team traveled to Flint to take on Grand Blanc at the Dort Federal Credit Union Arena.  Sophomore Goalie Brett Dinges got the start and was able to stonewall Grand Blanc in the first period stopping all 14 shots, some in dramatic fashion stealing at least 3 goals away from the frustrated Bobcats.  OAU was on the defensive for most of the period but start to counter attack late and were finally able to break through at the 1:15 mark.  Senior Aaron Angelo, playing his fourth game of the season at forward instead of goalie, was able to get his first goal of his OAU career when Sophomore Forward Jake Billis put a great shot on net that was stopped by the Bobcat net minder, only to have Angelo dive toward the loose back and bang it in, giving OAU the 1-0 lead going into the second period.

Grand Blanc did not waste any time as they attacked the zone at the start of the second period and were able to beat Dinges on their second shot to tie the score at 1-1.  Both teams were going back and forth in the neutral zone for 5 minutes when Senior Captain Ben Pratt was able to intercept a pass and skate in beating a pair of Bobcats to score unassisted for his team leading 6th goal of the year.  The OAU lead did not that long as Grand Blanc was able to score while Senior Forward Zach Rauh was in the penalty box to tie the game at 2-2 which is how the period ended.

The teams in the third period again were attacking in both zones, only to have Grand Blanc take the lead at the 13:41 mark of the period on a redirected shot from the point.  The Bobcats were able to extend their lead 3 minutes later when Bobcat Captain Owen Walker scored his second goal of the period to make it 4-2.  OAU pulled their goalie at the 2:48 point of the period, but were not able to score and the game ended in a loss.

Goalie Brett Dinges made 38 saves on 42 shots, and Zach Rauh once again led OAU with 10 hits for the game.

OAU will travel to Lapeer on Wednesday, January 9th to take on Alliance at 7:15 pm.
