Oxford dropped it first game back from break 7-5 to Troy Athens. Athens jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. Oxford responded with a 4 run 3rdinning. Athens came right scoring 2 runs in the 4th to tie the game. Athens plated 3 more runs in the 5th which proved to be much for the Cats to come back from. Evan Brunning started the game surrendering 4 runs on seven hits over three innings of work. Jesse Burch came in for four innings of relief. Burch allowed one earned run while striking out four. Thomas Smalley lead the offense going 2 for 3.
OXFORD WILDCATS JV GRABS LEAD IN SEVENTH INNING TO DEFEAT TROY ATHENS
Oxford Wildcats stole the lead late and defeated Troy Athens 7-2 on Tuesday. The game was tied at two with Oxford batting in the top of the seventh when Blake Johnson tripled on a 2-2 count, scoring three runs. The Wildcats got things started in the first inning. Joe Roeher drove in two when he doubled. Troy Athens knotted the game up at two in the bottom of the fifth inning. Roeher's wild pitch allowed one run to score for Troy Athens. Sean Cooper, Nolan Kutchey, Jack Butzu and Roeher toed the rubber for Oxford combining for the win. They combined for 6 strikeouts while walking 4. Nolan Kutchey, Roeher, and Johnson each managed one hit to lead the Wildcats.
