Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Sudden Death 3OT Win On Senior Night

Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse Sudden Death 3OT Win On Senior Night

The Wildcats hosted the Lakers of West Bloomfield Monday night and the game will certainly be remembered for a long time by the players and fans in attendance. In customary fashion, the JV team kicked off the night, as the clock ran down in the second half the teams were trading goals, the Wildcats went up 6-5 with 18 seconds remaining and finished it off with an outstanding save in goal on a free shot with 5 seconds remaining to hold on to the Oxford Wildcat win.  The Varsity took the field, feeding off the momentum of the JV win and 10 minutes into the game the Wildcats were up 3-1. As the half wound down, the teams were trading goals and ended the first half with a 9-7 Wildcat lead. The halftime break acknowledged the seniors of West Bloomfield, followed by 6 Oxford seniors:

Emily BoothJosie KaneKennedy BrisbonMegan Klinger, Caitlin Hill, and Keira Veltigian. When the second half started up in this heavy weight match, everybody in the stands were either on the edge of their seats or pacing as the game played out. Trading every other goal until the Lakers pulled ahead by a score of 14-13 with 1:54 remaining in the game, the situation did not rattle the Wildcats as they have been in this position before.  With 1:30 left in the game Coach Aliisa Mason called a time out, huddled up her team for a sideline talk, gave the team the play, and the girls ran it to perfection, scoring with 3.9 seconds left in the game and ending regulation play with a 14-14 tie. Overtime #1 went back and forth, ending tied at 14-14, Overtime #2 up and down the field and with .05 seconds remaining the Lakers were awarded a penalty shot in which they were denied, leading to a sudden death Overtime #3. The Wildcats controlled the opening draw to start off OT #3, worked the ball to the offensive side of the field, ran their plays, cleared the scoring zone which gave time and space to bury the ball in the net top shelf for a Wildcat sudden death 3rd OT win on Senior Night!

The Senior Night win was a total team effort as it started in the practices leading up to the game, carried over into the focused pregame warm ups, each player on the roster contributing in some way to the results of the night.  Honorable mention to all rostered players for this memorable program victory:
