Jack Butzu started on the mound throwing 4 solid innings before giving way to Tony Hatzigeorgiou for the final 3 innings
Offensively the Wildcats were led by Zane Fantich with 2 hits, a run scored and RBI, and Hatzigeorgiou had a big double to add to the lead in the 7th inning.
In game 2, the Wildcats won in walk off fashion in the 9th inning of a tightly fought game over Woodhaven High School, 8-7. Nolan Kutchey threw the first 5 innings striking out 5 batters. Silas VonAllmen and Fantich combined to strike out 4 batters over the last 4 innings with Fantich earning the win. They were helped by some solid defense including a great play by Joe Roeher at 3rd base.
The offense was led by Brendan Moore (2-5, 3 runs scored), Gavin Walters (2-2, 3 walks and 2 RBI), Devin May and Roeher (2 RBI each), Mitchell Travis (3 walks, 1 RBI), and Fantich (1-1, walk, 2 runs scored). The game was won on a bases-loaded single by Walters in the bottom of the 9th inning.
In the championship game Oxford faced off against Hartland High School. It was a pitchers duel the whole way, ending in a 2-1 Wildcats victory after scoring a run in the top of the 7th inning and closing it out in the bottom half of the inning.
Sean Cooper threw the complete game, striking out 7 batters and allowing 6 hits. He was fantastic on the mound, keeping Hartland off balance most of the game. May caught a very solid game behind the plate Moore played some nice defense in left field.
There wasn't a whole lot of offense in this one due to the 2 great pitching performances but May (3-3), Walters (walk, run scored) and Blake Johnson (stolen base, run scored) led the way to victory and the tournament championship!
Next week Oxford will play host to Rochester Adams on Monday and Tuesday. We hope to see you out there!
