Girls' Lacrosse Fights Hard In District Game 1

Girls' Varsity Lacrosse defeat Holly High School:

The girls' varsity lacrosse team had their final regular season "road trip" stop at Holly High School last night to take on the Bronchos.  The Wildcats executed their game plan well as they ran their plays and controlled the ball which resulted in the scoring starting 35 seconds into the game and runs of 2, 3, and 4 goals, when the first half ended the Wildcats were in control with a 10-3 lead.  The Wildcats continued with their game plan and had a 6 goal run and pitched a shutout in the second half, as the final horn sounded the Wildcats had earned a 16-3 victory.     

Offensively Rebecca Smiles (junior), Megan Alban (freshman), Emma Crosby (sophomore), Gwyn Love (junior) and Alexa Warman (junior) controlled the clock and the ball, cycling it with precision, creating the time and space needed for the goal scorers.    

On the defensive side Audrey Hermanson (junior), Brynn Pierse (junior), Caitlin Hill (senior) and Shelby Mueller (junior) worked in concert with goalie Gracie Fritschie (sophomore), the unit successfully shut down the Bronchos offensive opportunities and created numerous turnoversthroughout the game.

Girls' Varsity Lacrosse verse Hartland in MHSAA Playoffs:

The girls' varsity lacrosse team wrapped up their 2019 "Orange Barrel" Tour as they traveled to Hartland High School to take on the Eagles in round 1 of the MHSAA Division 1 Regional Playoffs. The Wildcats started off strong controlling the opening draw and ball for the first 5 minutes of the game, following a Wildcat turnover the highly ranked Eagles flipped the field, running into a Wildcat defense that made the Eagles work hard for their goals, eventually the Eagles broke through and had a few scoring runs.  The Wildcats competed hard the entire game on both sides of the field, closing out the scoring with 2 goals in the final 5 minutes of the game, when the horn sounded Eagles 16, Wildcats 4.         

Coach Aliisa Mason's inaugural season at the helm of the Wildcats has been notable as it included on and off field growth and development in all the players, built on the tradition of total team defense up and down the field, wins verse cross town rivals, signature wins, 3OT sudden death win on Senior Night, double digit win total, MHSAA playoff invitation, and graduated 5 seniors that have been key in building the Oxford Girls' Lacrosse program.
