Head Coach John Thaler has stepped down as head coach of the Oxford Boys' Soccer team. Coach Thaler is very excited to lead the Oxford Girls' Soccer team.
When asked about his time as the Oxford Boys' Soccer Team, Coach Thaler said "I am extremely proud to have been part of the boys soccer program since 1998. It has been an amazing ride and I will carry all the fantastic memories with me forever. I am ready to guide the girls program to the many successes as the boys program, if not more. The challenge was reignited last spring as took over the girls program again and I cannot wait to get started once more."
Coach Thaler has been a teacher with Oxford Community Schools since 1998 as a member of the Oxford Middle School staff. Coach Thaler has been the Boys' Varsity Soccer Coach since 2002 and as the Girls' Varsity Soccer Coach from 2005 – 2007 and 2019 - Present. In that time he has accumulated over 200+ wins, earned two league titles, six district titles, two regional finals appearances and been named District Coach of the Year six times. Coach Thaler has also been a middle school track coach at OMS, the Boys' Junior Varsity Soccer Coach from 1998 – 2000 and part of the inaugural staff of the Boys' Swim team at OHS. Coach Thaler is a graduate of Vallejo Senior High School in Vallejo, California. Thaler earned his teaching degree from Western Michigan University and his Master's Degree from Oakland University. Coach Thaler is married to his wife Ashley and have raised both their daughters, Sydney and Olivia, in Oxford. Sydney is attending Oakland University's Honors College and Olivia is a junior at OHS.
Coach Thaler's philosophy on coaching: To maintain an honest and positive atmosphere for the players, which is based on respect, and using soccer to educate and prepare them for life's challenges. Importance will be placed on technical, tactical and physical improvement while inspiring players to maintain a winning attitude while having fun.
