Oxford wrestling traveled to Linden for a highly anticipated assembly quad. With D4 #2 New Lothrop being a new team being added to the quad, the competition definitely took a step up. The Wildcats battled as their youth showed through losing a tight dual 37-38.
"Simply put, we let the bottom position haunt us. New Lothrop deserves credit for their win and is traditionally known for being tough on top. You cannot expect to win a dual giving up six pins in." said Head Coach Ross Wingert
In the second dual Oxford faced an always stout Westland John Glenn. Unfortunately, this match-up presented many of the same issues from facing New Lothrup. The Wildcats gave up 6 more falls losing in a closer dual than the score shows 30-45.
"We have plenty of fire power on this roster. Both duals today we scored 30 or more points and came away without a win" said Head Coach Ross Wingert "The good teams know 30 points is plenty to win a dual, and I know this team will make every effort to limit opponent bonus points going forward. Eight out out of fourteen wrestlers in our lineup today are underclassmen, we have some lessons to learn. We preach to our young men that life is a race to make the most mistakes as fast a possible. Do not be afraid to make mistakes! As long as they are honest mistakes with attention that is self initiated towards correcting them, we are now better off for having done so."
