L'Anse Creuse North hosted 28 Varsity boys' teams and 21 Varsity girls' teams at its Bakers Dozen Baker Bowling Tournament on January 4th. It was held at Imperial Lanes in Clinton Township and had power programs Like Dakota, Anchor Bay, L'Anse Creuse, Utica Eisenhower and others in attendance. Oxford entered 2 boys' teams, both bowling Varsity and a girl's JV and Varsity team.
The girls led the way with a 2nd place finish, losing to Host L'Anse Creuse North in the finals at the varsity level and the JV Girls brought home a 3rd place finish. The Varsity girls beat teams from Lakeview, Warren Cousino and Armada before facing LCN.
"This is a great step forward for the girls. We seem to be getting better every week and at every event we go to. They really did a solid job today and if the growth continues, we will be a force and years end" - Head Coach JR Lafnear
The boys' teams also had success today. The Varsity team was the number 1 qualifier after the baker games and the JV Team bowling in the varsity event qualified 11th. They beat 16 other varsity programs.
The Varsity boys won their first round match vs Troy in 2 games them face off against Utica Eisenhower. After splitting games one and two, the teams faced off in an epic slug fest. Oxford came out with the first 3 strikes and 7 out of the first 8 frames were strikes. Oxford rolled and impressive 245. However, the Eisenhower boys after opening in frame 1 tossed the next 9 strikes in a row for a super 268 game. Eisenhower would go on to win the event. The JV boys took a very good Henry Ford team to 3 games before it lost.
"This was a bittersweet way to end the day. The boys did a solid job all day. That battle with Utica was crazy wild to be a part of and the crowd was having a blast. Both teams were very impressive and I'm glad they went on to win the tournament. We showed some real mental toughness but fell short today but will be a better team because of it." - Head Coach JR Lafnear
