Bloomfield Hills Gets Revenge Win Over OAU 10-2!
The Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks hosted the Oxford Avondale United Varsity Hockey team Thursday January 9th, seeking to revenge their first loss of the season to OAU back in December. The Black Hawks came out flying, controlling the early play but failing to get any quality shots on goal. Bloomfield was able to finally break through at the 10-minute mark putting a rebound past Junior Goalie Austin Spivey to go up 1-0. Less than four minutes later, the Black Hawks struck twice in 20 seconds on defensive lapses to go up 3-0. OAU was able to finally get on the board with 30 seconds left in the period while on the Power Play when Senior Forward Matt Schultz won a face off cleanly, getting the puck back to Junior Defenseman Brendan Vogler on the point who fired the puck into the top corner of the net bringing the score to 3-1.
The second period was all Black Hawks as they fired 20 shots on goalie Spivey who was able to stop 17 of them. One of the saves hit Spivey square in the mask, which led to him missing the final period. OAU looked sluggish coming off the Holiday break and skated down 2 players, one being Junior Forward Jake Billis who had shoulder surgery earlier in the week and will be lost for the season. The second period ended with Bloomfield up 6-1
The third period started with Junior Goalie Brett Dinges in net, replacing the injured Austin Spivey, and the Black Hawks took advantage of an early turn over and scored less than 2 minutes in to go up 7-1. OAU was able to respond at the 12-minute mark with Junior Forward Nate Poplars scoring on a great pass from Sophomore Defenseman Coen Hao to bring the score to 7-2. That was all that OAU could do as the Black Hawks added 3 more goals in the 10-2 win.
OAU travels to the Dort Arena in Flint to take on Grand Blanc on Saturday January 11th at 2:30 pm.
