Prior to the start of the Oxford Swim & Dive vs. Groves meet, the athletic department honored Oxford Bank for helping fund a new scoreboard in our Natatorium. This is the 7th scoreboard the Oxford Bank has helped purchase in the last three years. Standing with Oxford Community Schools Superintendent Tim Throne was President and CEO of Oxford Bank David Lamb.
"Oxford Bank has been a great partner of Oxford Schools for a very long time." said Oxford Community Schools Superintendent Tim Throne "We are so appreciative of their support and strengthening our relationship. Thank you Dave Lamb and the entire Oxford Bank team."
The Oxford Swim & Dive team battled hard against a very tough Birmingham Groves tonight, but ultimately fell 108 to 78. Oxford won 7 of the 12 events starting with the medley relay of Ashlee Weltyk, Grace Charnstrom, Cali Schnur, and Laura Mace with a time of 1:54.47. Junior captain Jenna Fistler claimed the top spot in both the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Sophomore Cali Schnur won the 100 butterfly. Senior captain Ashlee Weltyk won both the 50 freestyle and the 500 freestyle. In the 500, not only did Ashlee qualified for the state meet with a time of 5:12.39, but that time will also put her on the record board as both a school and pull a record!
In a final exciting race, the 400 free relay of Nellie Charnstrom, Jenna Fistler, Cali Schnur, and Ashlee Weltyk came from behind to win with a time of 3:45.31.
Oxford is now 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the White Division.
