Under the bright lights, music and fan-filled atmosphere, the Ian Smith Gymnasium at Oxford High School hosted the final middle school girls' basketball game. This was a special feel to the end of a phenomenal 2019 season for all teams.
As each season comes to an end, players and fans get excited to go head-to-head in a final Blue vs. Gold competition. This year it was even more exciting as it was played on Oxford High Schools main floor. 7th grader Brynley Cardona said after the game, "I was nervous and excited to play at OHS, but ready to play as hard as I could." The athletes and fans could definitely feel the shift in energy as the teams battled for 32 minutes of physical and scrappy play. In the end, the 7th and 8th Blue teams came out with the victory!
This year, the 7th and 8th grade Gold teams had one loss a piece to Walden Middle School. While the 7th and 8th grade Blue teams went undefeated. 7th grader Nina Kratt says, "It took a lot of hard work, but it felt good to have an undefeated season." All the teams combined took home 38 wins and 2 losses, showing coaches and fans that OHS has a bright future ahead of them.
First time player Emma Dorman said, "It was fun to play and get to know girls that I don't often have a chance to talk to. I am looking forward to next season!"
Players would like to thank the coaches for all their hard work, and the Athletic Department for setting up a great night at OHS. "We felt special being on the big floor. Can't wait to play on that floor next year!" Bella Rushlow.
