JV Baseball Earns Opening Day Victory

RICHMOND, Mich. - The JV Baseball Wildcats beat the Blue Devils of Richmond High School Monday by a score of 6-3.  Defensively Oxford was led by a combined effort on the mound. 

Garret Hiler started the game, allowing 1 earned run over 3 innings while striking out 4 batters.  Sean Sherman relieved him, throwing 3 strong innings of his own, allowing 1 run and striking out 3 along the way.  Tanner Stokes picked up the save pitching the 7th inning, striking out 1.  Tommy Smalley made a highlight play at shortstop, diving on a ball headed for center field and throwing out the runner at first.  Tyler Dejong was very solid behind the plate.  

Jake Dolata led the offensive attack going 3-4, with a double, scoring a run, driving in 2 more and stealing 2 bases.  Hiler was 1-3 with a run scored, 2 RBI and a stolen base and Brennan Mielnicki was 1-2 with 2 more RBI as well.  Other offensive standouts included Dejong (1-3, stolen base), Tanner Stokes (1-1 with double, on base 4 times, run scored, 3 stolen bases), Smalley (2 walks, stolen base).  Gabe Debo laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt and also walked.

The team is off for 2 weeks but hopes to keep the winning going when they take on Almont at home April 10th.
