BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - On Tuesday, January 9th, the Oxford Avondale United took on an Undefeated Birmingham Unified team. BU took control of the game early and spent most of the time in OA's end attacking our net. OA was able to hold off the assault until BU was able to score while on the Power Play at the 6:45. BU added two more goals in the first period making it 3-0. Junior Goalie Aaron Angelo faced 14 shots during the period.
The 2nd period started with BU again taking control of the game scoring quickly in the first minute to make it 4-0. OA was able to get on the board at the 12:01 mark when Senior Captain Griffin Burk intercepted a pass and took it all the way past multiple defenders and snapping a wrist shot in the corner of the net. However, within minutes, BU was able to score on another Power Play to make it 5-1. BU added two more goals before OA was able to score again at the 3:04 while on the Power Play as Sophomore JJ Poolton took a give and go from Freshman Jake Billis to make it 7-2. BU scored an additional goal to make it 8-2 with less than a minute remaining in the period. The score could have been worse if not for Goalie Aaron Angelo who made 22 saves in the period.
The 3rd period again had BU spending most of their time in OA's end as OA had to defend against 4 Power Plays. BU score again late in the period, then as time was expiring added another goal while on the Power Play to make the final score 10-2.
It was a long night for Goalie Aaron Angelo who faced a season high 58 shots on net, most up close, making a season high 48 saves.
OA's next game is Friday, January 13th at Royal Oak Arena against Royal Oak High School.
