The Oxford Avondale United Hockey team faced off against Bishop Foley Unified on Thursday night at the Detroit Skate Club, looking to make it two straight wins following their OT win the night before against Marysville. OAU came out fast, putting Bishop Foley on their heels, as they carried play primarily in the Bishop Foley zone. OAU peppered the Bishop Foley net minder but were not able to score.  Bishop Foley hoped to go up at the Midway point of the period when OAU took a penalty, but it was not to be. OAU scored short-handed when Junior Defensemen Ryan Honig made an outlet pass to Junior Forward Nathan Poplars who skated in put it between the skates of the Bishop Foley goalie. The period ended with OAU up only 1-0, due to Bishop Foley's goalie who made 16 saves.

The 2nd period had OAU having to kill a penalty almost immediately, but they turned the tables on Bishop Foley again short-handed when Sophomore Forward Ben Hepp stole the puck and skated down and fired a wrist shot to put OAU up 2-0.  Ben Hepp scored once again, scoring on a rebound of a shot from Junior Defensemen Brendan Vogler.  Ben Hepp was not done as he scored his third goal, a natural hat trick of 3 in a row uninterrupted, when he stole the puck, short-handed and beat the goalie on a deke move.  The period was more balanced offensively as Junior Goalie Brett Dinges made 8 saves to keep the score 4-0.

The 3rd period had both teams putting together offensive rushes, but is was OAU who capitalized at the 14:21 mark when Senior Forward Matt Schultz, who had seconds before missed on a breakaway, made sure to find the back of the net after stealing another puck.  OAU made it 6-0 less than a minute later when Ben Hepp scored is 4th goal of the game, assisted by Senior Forward Marino Bucci.  OAU, after killing 6 penalties in the 2nd period, was finally able to go on the Power Play where they scored when Sophomore Defensemen Coen Hao skated the length of the ice and shot a point blank range which rebounded off the goalie, only to be put in by Nathan Poplars who scored his second goal of the game.  OAU ended the game at the 3:32 mark of the period when Senior Defenseman Donovin Thompson stole a puck in his own end and skated through 3 defenders and beat the Bishop Foley Goalie with a top shelf shot!

Sophomore Forward Ben Hepp had 4 Goals to lead OAU.  Junior Forward Nathan Poplars added 2 Goals and Junior Goalie Brett Dinges stopped all 24 shots he faced for the shutout!

OAU travels to Flint this weekend for a game on Saturday and Sunday at the Dort Arena for a 4 team tournament.
