OXFORD, Mich. - The game wasn't pretty, but Oxford outlasted visting L'anse Creuse North 5-3 in a low scoring varsity lacrosse contest Wednesday night at Oxford Elementary School. The Wildcats spent much of the night in the penalty box, but managed two fourth quarter goals to seal the victory.
Oxford was charged with 14 penalties against the Crusaders, but the miscues didn't hurt the bottom line as the Wildcats upped their record to 3-1.
"There's not much to say except that we have to take care of the ball better and not play down to an opponent," said Greg Normand, Oxford's head coach. "I know we're young, but we have to handle our business more professionally as we move forward."
Oxford's offensive production came from two goals each by Logan Vachon (two assists) and Matt Pullman. Thomas Wandrie added the fifth goal for the winners. Senior goalie Gio DeBlasi faced 21 shots and only gave up three goals to chalk up his third win of the 2018 season.
"I thought Gio held us together tonight and that's important as our young defense learns the ropes," Normand said.
Defensively, Drew Galley and Sam Barrott each had four ground balls. Vachon and Max Parsons combined for the face-off win 7-6 in the low scoring affair.
The Wildcats return to action Thursday, April 12, 2018 against OAA league opponent Troy Athens at Wildcat Stadium at 7 pm.
