OXFORD, Mich.- The Oxford High School Varsity Softball team continued their winning ways with two wins over top ranked Walled Lake Northern.

Oxford 7 Walled Lake Northern 6

The Oxford Wildcats softball team is relentless. In game one, against Division 1 state ranked Walled Lake Northern the wildcats struck first in the third inning going up 1-0 on a Mackenzie Miller single.  This lead did not last as Northern stormed back in the top half of the 4th inning with 6 runs.  Oxford Head Coach Kenny Allen said, "This (Walled Lake) Northern team can flat out hit from top to bottom". Oxford seemed unfazed by the 6 run outburst in the 4th.  "Our girls absorbed their (Northern) barrage and didn't back down," Allen said.

The wildcats would add one in the bottom of the 4th and then another in the 5th.  Kaitlyn Bean and Hannah Vachon would shut down the bats for the final three innings to set up the bottom of the 7th and Oxford trailing by 3.  Bean led off with a walk, then a base hit by Emma Morris followed by a critical walk to Chloe Allen to load the bases. Sarah Tyrrell then came up and smacked a double to right center to bring the wildcats to within 1.  The red hot Lauren Donaldson was intentionally walked to load the bases.  Tying run is now on third. " I thought about trying to squeeze the tying run in but Vachon has been ultra clutch at the plate this season.  The look in her eye told me this game was about to be tied." Allen said.  And he was right.  Vachon drilled the first pitch off of the shortstop bringing in the tying run. The very next batter was freshman Alexis Cardona. On the second pitch she hit one in the hole between first and second and this game was over.  "A huge hit for Cardona. She was confident and she delivered. This was a great example of the girls competing until the final out. They were down to their last three outs and they continued to fight. They just don't quit," said Allen.

In the night cap, the momentum from the comeback win seemed to carry forward. The Wildcats scored 1 in the first, 4 in the second and 5 in the third.  Chloe Allen had 2 hits and 3 RBIS, Sarah Tyrrell scored 3 runs, Lauren Donaldson added 3 hits and 2 RBIs, Vachon had a two run triple.  Bean and Vachon combined to shut out the powerful Northern lineup. "Our girls continued to pound the ball. They took the ball the opposite way and (they) ran the bases aggressively. This was a very good day for Oxford Softball. Walled Lake Northern is one very good team. They are going to have a lot of success in the playoffs. We came out and gave our best effort every pitch and I am proud of them." Allen finished.

Oxford moves to 21-5 on the season and will host Chippewa Valley for two Friday 5/24 @4.
