BERKLEY, Mich.- Coming out and asserting their defensive dominance in their 4-4-2 defensive minded formation helped Oxford establish their base quickly against a fleet-footed forwards from Berkley. Migrating to more of an offensive minded 4-3-3 formation as the attacking mid moved up to fill the space in the center between the 2 wide forwards gave Oxford the chance to push the ball up the field as the other mids filled the open space across the field more this game than their past outings. The game was a constant push and pull battle that mainly stayed 20 yards either side of the midline with most of the time spent on Berkley's side of the field. The lone goal came off of a corner kick from Anabelle Fischer to Mackenzie Carter. Berkley threw everything they had at the Ladycats in a strong last 4 minute flurry of offensive. Falling back into their 4-4-2 formation they held strong and prevailed on their 1st game of their 2 game roadtrip.
NEW BALTIMORE, Mich.- David vs Goliath with a slightly different outcome. Riding a 6 game win streak in which they have outscored their opponents 26-1 Anchor Bay presented a formidable task to the Oxford JV Girls. Running their defensive 4-4-2 scheme would serve them well as Anchor Bay came out strong. The 'Bend but don't break' philosophy only last a few minutes when Anchor Bay scored their 1st goal 5 minutes into the match. Oxford then dug in their heels and decided to push back and battled the rest of the 1st half spending an equal amount of time in Anchor Bay's half of the field. The 2nd half was a battle for heavyweights. Each one would throw a punch and the other countering. Back and forth up and down the field the two teams battled with Anchor Bay sneaking in a slow dribbler late in the match.
