Volleyball:

4. Class C top-ranked Bronson is plenty familiar with tonight’s Quarterfinal opponent, No. 2 Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central – Sturgis Journal

5. Class B No. 4 Niles is hoping to add to its first District and Regional titles with a first Quarterfinal win, over No. 3 Lake Odessa Lakewood – Niles Daily Star

6. Class A No. 3 Grand Rapids Christian downed top-ranked Rockford in the Regional, a big step as the Eagles pursue their first MHSAA championship in the sport with No. 4 DeWitt up next – FOX17

Girls Golf:

Traverse City West’s Anika Dy was named Miss Golf for the second time by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association – Traverse City Record-Eagle

 

Cross Country:

Coldwater’s Shuaib Aljabaly and Lansing Catholic’s Olivia Theis were named Mr. Cross Country and Miss Cross County, respectively, by the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association – Coldwater Daily Reporter

 

Hockey:

1. The first games of the season can be played today, and Petoskey is among teams anticipating a return to the ice – Petoskey News-Review

Girls Swimming & Diving:

1. Honorable mention Spring Lake will send 10 athletes to the Lower Peninsula Division 3 Finals, including three divers – Grand Haven Tribune

2. Hamilton standout Paige Kuhn is banking on a strong finish in the final meet of her high school career – Holland Sentinel

3. Gaylord sophomore Grace Wambier is a school record holder and hopes to add to her accomplishments at the Division 3 Finals – Gaylord Herald Times

Game Recap

The Wildcats wrapped up the 2017/2018 Football season with an OAA crossover game vs. the Berkley Bears. The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead and took a 22-7 lead into halftime. The Wildcats first score of the night came on a 5 yard run by sophomore Drew Carpenter. The next 2 scores came through the air, the first on a 14 yard strike to Ben Nuss, the other on an 80 yard hook up from senior QB Parker Flemming to senior wide out Matt Mielnicki. The Wildcats would tack on 21 more points in the second half. Carpenter would add another score, this time from 15 yards run. Devon Hudson and Caleb Tabert would add rushing TD’s of their own for the Wildacts. Flemming finished the night 5-14 for 128 yards and 2 TD’s. The Wildcats finished the year 2-7 ( 1-6 OAA Red )

Meet Recap

Regionals were held at the well manicured Farmington Hills Golf Course. In her final competitive match as a Wildcat our Captain Lauren Yankee did what she had been doing all year, She led the team in scoring with a 91. We say well done to our Senior Abby Smiles. She is the epitome of dedication and sportsmanship, she shot a 117. Our Junior and Captain Caity Hopman carded a 110. Elizabeth Grabowski is a promising sophomore she shot a 116. We also took our freshman Kate Dietiker, she is a great athlete and will be a major part of our team for the next 3 years. We will celebrate our unity at our banquet at Metamora CC. Thanks to all for the support.

Oxford swept the twelve events to continue their undefeated season with a strong win over fellow OAA Blue Avondale Yellow Jackets. The two teams will see each other again in less than two weeks at the League Meet hosted by Oxford on November 1st (swimming prelims), 2nd (diving prelims), and 3rd (swim and dive finals).

200 Medley Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of Weltyk, McClenaghan, Commons, and Fistler came in 1st with a time of 1:59.99.

200 Freestyle: Oxford Junior Cailin Griffith took 1st with a time of 1:16.15.

200 Individual Medley: Oxford Junior Claire Alexander finished 1st with a time of 2:30.10.

50 Freestyle: Oxford Sophomore Ashlee Weltyk touched 1st with a time of 26.11.

Diving: Oxford Junior Keira Veltigian took 1st with a score of 234.15.

100 Butterfly: Oxford’s Ashlee Weltyk claimed her second win of the night with a time of 1:04.75, which puts her 5th on Oxford’s All-Time Top Ten List.

100 Freestyle: Oxford’s Claire Alexander finished 1st for the second time of the night with a time of 59.70.

500 Freestyle: Oxford Sophomore Sabrina Kurk came in 1st with a time of 6:00.54.

200 Freestyle Relay: Oxford’s A Relay of McClenaghan, Alexander, Fistler, and Weltyk touched 1st with a time of 1:47.93.

100 Backstroke: Oxford’s Junior Captain Tate Hamilton finished 1st with a time of 1:14.44.

100 Breaststroke: Oxford’s Senior Captain Victoria McClenaghan took 1st with a time of 1:18.67.

400 Freestyle Relay: Oxford’s B Relay of Bishop, Griffith, Charnstrom, and Hamilton came in 1st with a time of 4:34.15.

Game Recap

The Wildcats ended their run in the MHSAA Division 1 district semifinals with a loss to the Wolves of Clarkston. Oxford conceded three goals on set pieces and one against the run of play. The Wildcats had opportunities to tally goals but just couldn’t find the seam to slide one in.

The young squad earned some historic wins during the season and will look to continue their rapid climb into the local soccer scene. Congratulations to the 2017 OHS Boys soccer team!

The 7th grade gold girls basketball team lost a tough matchup with Oakview last night by the score of 31-22. The game was very close throughout thanks to a tough defensive press by Oxford but a late run by Oakview put them over the top. The lady wildcats were led in scoring by Reina St. Juliana with 8 points, Keira Billis with 6 points, Ella Boyd with 4 points, Jenna Miller with 2 points and Elizabeth Rice with 2 points. The 7th grade gold teams record now falls to 4-3 on the year.
